CHAPTER 1:Jesus Shares God's Life with Us

In Chapter 1 the students continue to more about Jesus. They learn that Jesus is the Son of God and that we are called to follow him.

Distribute the activity sheets and read the directions aloud. Before starting the activity, encourage the students to make a list of ways to follow Jesus’ example in serving others. When students have completed the activity, invite volunteers to share their ideas.

CHAPTER 2:Jesus Shares His Mission with the Church

In Chapter 2 the students learn that we give witness when we share the good news and serve others.

Distribute the activity sheets. Ask volunteers to read the directions aloud. Encourage the students to be creative. Allow students to work with a partner and use their We Believe texts if they need suggestions of ways to share the good news of Jesus with others. If possible, ask volunteers to "showcase" their completed songs.

CHAPTER 3:The Church Celebrates Seven Sacraments

In Chapter 3 the students learn that the Church celebrates seven sacraments, the signs of Jesus’ love.
Distribute the activity sheets. Read the directions aloud. Guide the students to review the information in Chapter 3 about the sacraments before designing their billboard advertisements.

CHAPTER 4:New Life in Christ

In Chapter 4 the students learn that Baptism frees us from sin and gives us new life in Christ.
Before beginning the activity, discuss with students what they recall about the life of Saint Paul. Distribute the activity sheets and read the directions aloud.

1. c. Baptism—the sacrament in which we are freed from sin, become children of God, and are welcomed into the Church

CHAPTER 5:The Celebration of Baptism

In Chapter 5 the students learn about the celebration of the sacrament of Baptism.
Distribute the activity sheets. Read the directions aloud. Encourage the students to use the We Believe text to solve the crossword puzzle clues. Answers to the crossword puzzle

CHAPTER 6:The Liturgical Year

In Chapter 6 the students learn that throughout the liturgical year, we remember and celebrate the life of Christ.

Review with students the seasons of the liturgical year and the material presented in Chapter 6. Invite them to talk about celebrations that are held in their parish during the liturgical year.

Distribute the activity sheets and read the directions aloud. Ask the students to choose one way that the Church celebrates during the liturgical year. This will be outlined on the activity sheet. Remind students to use their We Believe texts to help them to find information about the celebration that they have chosen. Ask volunteers to share their ideas.

CHAPTER 7:Ordinary Time

In Chapter 7 the students learn that Ordinary Time is a special season to learn about the life of Christ and to grow as his followers.

Distribute the activity sheets. Ask volunteers to read the directions aloud. As a group, talk about gifts that we have because of God. Have students complete the activity. Provide a box, basket, or jar to compile the students’ gift cards. During prayer time, ask a volunteer to choose a gift card from the box, basket, or jar and read it aloud. Encourage the students to reflect on this gift from God and thank him.

CHAPTER 8:The Coming of the Holy Spirit

In Chapter 8 the students learn about the connection between Baptism and Confirmation and the way candidates prepare for Confirmation.
Distribute the activity sheets. Read the directions aloud. Discuss with students how the local parish prepares candidates for Confirmation. Encourage them to use their We Believe texts for reference when working on the activity. Remind them to include captions.

CHAPTER 9:The Celebration of Confirmation

In Chapter 9 the students learn about the celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation.
Distribute the activity sheets. Read the directions aloud. If possible, gather information about the most recent World Youth Day celebration and discuss it with the students.

CHAPTER 10:Jesus Christ, the Bread of Life

In Chapter 10 the students learn about the meaning of the Eucharist.
Distribute the activity sheets. Read the directions aloud. Explain to students that the word blog is an Internet term used to describe an informal personal web page. A blog often consists of various thoughts and web links on a variety of topics. Encourage the students to be creative in the design and concept of their blog about receiving the Eucharist.

CHAPTER 11: The Celebration of the Eucharist 

In Chapter 11 the students learn about the importance of the Eucharist.
Distribute the activity sheets. Read the directions aloud. Before starting the activity, discuss with students the four parts of the Mass and what happens in each part. Remind the students to include captions for their visuals of the Mass.

CHAPTER 12: Living as Prayerful People 

In Chapter 12 the students learn that there are many ways members of the Catholic Church pray.
Distribute the activity sheets. Read the directions aloud. Ask volunteers to read the words to be found and circled in the puzzle. If possible, ask volunteers to share their prayers while the other students determine the type of prayer that is being offered.

CHAPTER 13: Advent

In Chapter 13 the students learn that Advent is a season of joyful expectation and preparation for the coming of the Son of God.
Distribute the activity sheets, and read the directions aloud. Guide the students to use their We Believe texts to identify and explain the O Antiphon symbols. Invite the students to use crayons or markers to color each symbol.

CHAPTER 14: Christmas

In Chapter 14 the students learn that the season of Christmas is a time to rejoice in the Incarnation.
Distribute the activity sheets. Read the directions aloud. If possible, display examples of different types of mosaics for student reference. Provide students with an assortment of sheets of colored construction paper, scissors, and glue. Remind them to use captions to explain the significance of each Mass that is celebrated for Christmas.

CHAPTER 15:We Turn to God

In Chapter 15 the students learn about forgiveness and the sacrament of Reconciliation. Distribute the activity sheets, and read the directions aloud. Read aloud Jesus’ parable of the forgiving father found in Chapter 15. Encourage the students to reflect on parable and its message of forgiveness before beginning the activity.

CHAPTER 16:The Celebration of Reconciliation

In Chapter 16 the students learn about the celebration of the sacrament of Reconciliation and the Rite of Reconciliation for several and individual penitents. Distribute the activity sheets. Read the directions aloud. Using a paper clip and the tip of a pen or pencil, demonstrate how to make the spinner for the game. Encourage the students to use their We Believe texts to help them write their questions for the “Wheel of Reconciliation” game. Give the students time to complete the each part of the “wheel” with a question about the sacrament of Reconciliation. Then, have students work with a partner to play the game. Partners should exchange “wheels” and take turns by “spinning” and recording their answers. When all questions have been answered on each “wheel” ask the partners to use their We Believe texts to help score and tally each others’ answers. Correct answers are worth one point.

CHAPTER 17: Jesus the Healer

In Chapter 17 the students learn that Jesus and the apostles cared for the sick and the suffering, and that the Church continues the work of Jesus’ healing ministry. Review with students the Scripture story of Jesus and the royal official’s son. Ask the students to recall other Scripture stories about Jesus healing those who were sick. If possible, provide the students with a Bible to find such stories for their comic strips. Then, distribute the activity sheets. Read the directions aloud. Encourage the students to include speech balloons to help retell the healing stories.

CHAPTER 18:The Celebration of the Anointing of the Sick

In Chapter 18 the students learn how Jesus gives his comfort and peace in the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.
In advance, you may want to get a list of people in the parish that are in need of comfort and healing, or as a group, brainstorm a list of people that are in need of comfort and healing. Then, distribute the activity sheets and read the directions aloud. Provide assistance as needed. Encourage the students to be creative! Ask them to include illustrations, poetry, Scripture, and so on in their cards.

CHAPTER 19:Mary, Model of Discipleship

In Chapter 19 the students learn that Mary is a model of discipleship for us and for the Church.
Distribute the activity sheets and read the directions aloud. Encourage the students to use their We Believe texts for reference in completing the steps for praying the rosary. Have the students use the completed activity sheets as reference in future prayer services when praying the rosary.

Answer:
1. Start with the Sign of the Cross.

2. Then pray the Apostles’ Creed.

3. Pray an Our Father at every large bead.

4. Pray a Hail Mary at every small bead.

5. Pray a Glory to the Father after each set of small beads.

6. Pray the Hail, Holy Queen to end the rosary.

CHAPTER 20: Lent

In Chapter 20 the students learn that Lent is a season of preparation for the great celebration of Easter.
In advance, you may want to write the names of different countries for students to research on slips of paper. Then, have each student draw the name of the country to research. Provide students with time and reference materials such as periodicals, Catholic magazines, the Internet, and so on to research the celebration of Palm Sunday in different countries. Encourage students to be creative when designing their web pages. If possible, display the completed Palm Sunday web page ideas in the form of a bulletin board.

CHAPTER 21: The Easter Triduum

In Chapter 21 the students learn that the Easter Triduum is our greatest celebration of the Paschal Mystery.
Distribute the activity sheets and read the directions aloud. Encourage the students to use their We Believe texts to find information about the liturgical celebrations for three days of the Easter Triduum. You may want the students to work with a partner to complete the activity sheet. If possible, invite the students to attach photos, images, or illustrations of each day’s celebration to their summaries. You may want to display the summaries as a bulletin board in the parish or classroom during Holy Week.

CHAPTER 22: Faith, Hope, and Love

In Chapter 22 the students learn about the theological virtues of faith, hope, and love.
Distribute the activity sheets. Read the directions aloud. Remind students that the word blog is an Internet term used to describe an informal personal web page. A blog often consists of various thoughts and Web links on a variety of topics. Encourage the students to be creative in the design and concept of their blog. They may want to use the Internet to find information about a saint that lived a life of virtue. Remind the students that information about many different saints is also contained in their We Believe texts. Allow time for students to complete the activity and gather together to share their blogs.

CHAPTER 23: Called to Live as Jesus' Disciples

In Chapter 23 the students learn that Jesus calls us to be his disciples.

Before beginning the activity, have the students form three small groups. Assign each group one of the following terms: Laypeople, Religious, Ordained Ministers. Working as a group, allow the students the time to define their term, identify its members, and explain ways in which they can serve God, the Church, and others as members of the priesthood of the faithful. Then, ask each small group to present their findings to the class.

Distribute the activity sheets and read the directions aloud. Challenge the students to observe the ways laypeople, religious, and ordained ministers serve God, the Church, and others in the parish. Invite volunteers to share their observations. If possible, assign the activity sheet as a take-home assignment.

CHAPTER 24: Matrimony: A Promise of Faithfulness and Love

In Chapter 24 the students learn that the sacrament of Matrimony is built on Christ’s love for his Church.
Distribute the activity sheets and read the directions aloud. Allow time for the students to make their word search puzzle. Then, encourage the students to exchange their puzzle with a partner. Ask the partners to talk about meaning of each circled word.

CHAPTER 25: Holy Orders: A Promise of Service for the People of God

In Chapter 25 the students learn about the sacrament of Holy Orders and that the ordained make a promise of service for the people of God. Distribute the activity sheets. Invite a volunteer to read the directions aloud. Remind the students the use their We Believe text to gather information for their trading cards. Encourage the students to be creative! Provide markers, crayons, colored pencils, glue, glitter, and so on, to design the trading cards. If possible, have the students use pieces of cardboard or sheets of oak tag paper that can be glued to the trading cards. Allow time for the student to complete the trading cards and share them with others.

CHAPTER 26: One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic

In Chapter 26 the students learn that the Church is one, holy, catholic, and apostolic, that it respects all people, and works for justice and peace. Before beginning the activity, ask the students to reflect on what it means to be Catholic. Then, write the following question on the chalkboard or on a sheet of poster board: What are some things that unite Catholics? Ask the students to think about the question and suggest a response. List the students’ responses on the chalkboard or poster board and talk about each one.

Distribute the activity sheets and read the directions aloud. Encourage the students to use their We Believe text and to use the discussion to help in the design of the Web page. Invite the students to be creative. If possible, make a display of the students’ s completed Web pages or link them to your parish’s Web site.

CHAPTER 27: Easter

In Chapter 27 the students learn that the Easter season is a special time to rejoice over the new life we have in Christ. You may want to assign this activity during Holy Week and allow the students to continue recording their observations during the Easter season. Distribute the activity sheet and read the directions aloud. Encourage the students to present their observations in the form of a video, photo essay, recording, and so on. Allow time for the students to share their presentations with the group. Invite family members, parishioners, and other students to be a part of the audience.
