The responsibility of choosing a catechetical program for your parish or school is a challenging task. The question before you is - What catechetical text should we use?

To begin with, the needs and circumstances of your school and parish will be an indispensable part of the discernment process. In addition, the tools and process provided in Choosing the Right Catechetical Program for Your Parish or School offer you an easy-to-use point system for discernment and discussion. In general, the choice of a catechetical text is best accomplished by engaging your catechetical team in a process where they will use objective criteria while reviewing the text material.

The following steps will guide you through the overall process to:
  • Evaluate the catechetical programs currently available or in use.
  • Select the most appropriate program for use in your parish and/or school, and
  • Recommend a religion program to the pastor.
This process may take 2 - 3 months to complete but it will be time well spent, given the importance of this task. Here is a suggested time frame.
